Apple Intelligence reaches China in the iOS 27.3 beta on November 4, with Alibaba's Qwen inside Siri
Apple said on its China newsroom that Apple Intelligence testing in China starts with the November 4 developer beta, with a public iOS 27.3 release in December. Alibaba confirmed Qwen will work inside Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence.
Apple posted on its China newsroom on October 30 that the first iOS developer beta with Apple Intelligence for China arrives November 4 (MacRumors says that likely means November 3 in the US). iOS 27.3 then ships to the public in December, with no exact date.
The first wave is the older Apple Intelligence set: Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up, notification summaries, Visual Intelligence, Live Translation and Type to Siri. Siri AI and the other features from WWDC 2026 aren't included, and neither is Image Playground. It's iPhone only for now (iPhone 15 Pro and later); Mac and iPad wait for regulatory approval, per Apple.
On October 31, Alibaba announced that Qwen will work inside Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, for text and image understanding and for writing content from scratch, according to Xinhua. Users sign in with a Qwen account or Sign in with Apple, choose whether to turn it on, and Alibaba says it won't use requests or responses for training. The Verge compares it to the ChatGPT integration Apple shipped in 2024.
Why it matters for builders
If you ship an iOS app with users in China, Writing Tools and other system features will start acting on your text fields there in the 27.3 beta.
