Google opens Gemini 4 Argon to developers at an introductory $2/$10 per million tokens
Google's new frontier model is live in the paid Gemini API, AI Studio and Antigravity, aimed at long, multi-step work like large refactors, finance, legal and security tasks.
Google made Gemini 4 Argon available to developers on October 13. The model ID is gemini-4-argon, and it is available through the paid tier of the Gemini API in Google AI Studio, in Google Antigravity for AI Ultra subscribers, and in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search for AI Ultra and Pro subscribers.
Google positions Argon for long-horizon work: large codebase refactors, performance optimization, enterprise knowledge work and cybersecurity defense. By Google's own reporting it ranks first on the Vals Index, which covers finance, coding, legal and tax work. These are vendor-reported results.
The launch price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input 95% off. Aiholics reports the public rates rise to $4 and $20 from November 30, 2026.
Google's examples include helping the Chrome team split core page handling out of a roughly 6 million line legacy folder, and an overnight run on the open-source Agent Development Kit that cut in-memory session prep time by 40% in long sessions and sped up cold imports by 21%. Google says Argon in Antigravity raised agentic code submissions by more than 35% while cutting rollbacks by nearly a third.
Why it matters for builders
If you run coding agents on big repos, this is a new top-tier option at an introductory price that is set to double on November 30. Test it on your real refactors now and decide before the price changes.
